COURTESY VISITS BY INEC MANAGEMENT ABIA STATE TO KEY STAKEHOLDERS

The Management of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Abia State, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Chukwuemeka Christopher Ibeziako, Esq., paid courtesy visits to the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) and the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU)

The visits formed part of INEC’s stakeholder engagement activities following the commencement of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The engagements were aimed at further sensitizing the leadership of the institutions on the ongoing exercise and soliciting their cooperation, particularly regarding the deployment of voter registration devices within their facilities to enable eligible staff, students, and members of the host communities to register with ease.

In his remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner emphasized INEC’s commitment to deepening democratic participation by bringing voter registration services closer to the people. He explained that designated areas within the institutions would be utilized for the deployment of CVR equipment to capture intending registrants who meet the constitutional requirements to vote.

The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Professor Onyebuchi Azubuike, and the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, warmly received the INEC delegation. They commended the Commission for its proactive and inclusive approach, describing the initiative as timely and impactful. Both officials assured INEC of their full cooperation, affirming that their respective facilities would be made available for use by INEC staff for the purpose of voter registration. They also made valuable suggestions aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and smooth conduct of the exercise, which were duly noted by the Commission.

The meetings were cordial and fruitful, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening democratic participation. The visits concluded with the taking of group photographs to commemorate the events.
