Anambra Governorship Election: INEC on Course – Prof. Mahmood
The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Yakubu Mahmood, has assured that preparations for the successful conduct of the Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 18, 2017 are on course.
The INEC Chairman gave the assurance during a 2-day workshop organized for National Legal Advisers, Treasurers, and Organizing Secretaries of the 45 political parties in Abuja.
Represented by National Commissioner and Chairperson of the Election and Party Monitoring Committee (EPMC), Professor Antonia Okoosi- Simbine, the INEC Chairman said the Commission had been carrying on with all activities preparatory to the conduct of the Anambra governorship election.
Professor Yakubu pointed out that earlier in the week, the Commission had decentralized the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise from the 21 Local Government Area offices to the 326 Registration Areas in Anambra state, to ensure that all qualified persons get registered and are given the opportunity to exercise their franchise.  “All activities rolled out for the elections have been going on smoothly,” he said.
The INEC Chairman was responding to a question raised by a participant, alluding to the fear earlier insinuated on account of threats by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
