WHAT THE SENATE DID ON ELECTRONIC VOTING SYSTEM
BY NDIDI OKAFOR
A legal practitioner and political commentator Dr. Olatunji O Abayomi has commended the Commission for its position and decision to investigate the alleged malpractices in the by-elections in Ondo and Imo states.
According to Abayomi, it is INEC that gets blamed most of the times for all election wrongs and malpractices even when the commission’s officials are threatened, harassed, and wounded in the course of carrying out their services to the nation.
He went further to say that a new culture and tradition has begun under the leadership of Prof Maurice Iwu and that those who win elections conducted by this commission must win by lawful votes. Recounting professor Iwu’s assurances to the Nation in which the INEC boss stated that he would like to be remembered for conducting free and fair Elections, Abayomi went on to stress that in line with this assurances, it is clear that those who make lawful elections impossible will have themselves to blame even as the Commission’s decision to investigate and deal with electoral wrongs in these two states will put in place a new framework for good government through fair elections.
