NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER

Mr. Setley DAZE
Mr. Setley Daze was born on 20th June, 1949, in Asa District of Plateau State. He attended the Boys Secondary School, Gindiri, where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1968.

He proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art (1973). He did a post-graduate Certificate Programme in Theatre Design, at the English National Opera Design School, London (1976), and followed up with a Masters of Arts degree in Communication Arts (1980) from the Columbia College, Los Angeles, USA.

Mr. Daze served at various times as:

• Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Pearl Stones Ltd  (1990 to August, 2003)
• Communications Specialist for the UNDP/NIR (1989 - 1990).
• Director, Centre for Continuing Education, University of Jos (1988-89)
• Head, Department of Mass Communication, University of Jos  (1986-89)
• Research Fellow, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. (1974 - 1982)

He has served as a member of academic and professional boards which include: Chairman of Academic Board of the Centre for Continuing Education, University of Jos; Federal Government Visitation Panels to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and member of its Governing Council.

Professionally, Mr. Daze has contributed to the development of the film industry. He has produced a number of promotional and documentary films and video. He was in the Committee for the development of a film policy for Nigeria and a member of the Academic Board of the Film Institute, as well as Membership of a number of Committees in the University of Jos and Ahmadu Bello University.

Mr. Daze is currently the National Commissioner supervising Taraba, Nasarawa, Kogi States as well as the Federal Capital Territory. He has served in a number of Committees of the Commission which include: Information and Communication Technology; Political Party Monitoring; Finance and General Purposes; Senior Staff Establishment; Estate & Works; Elections Monitoring and Observation; Board of Survey and Technical Committee on Equipment Acquisition and Legal Services and Clearance Committees.
Mr. Daze has also been Chairman of Tenders Board and Information/Publicity Committees of the Commission. He is currently the Chairman, Senior Staff Welfare & Training Committee.

He is married with four children and two grand children.
