Bello Bala
Bello Bala was born on 1st October 1952 , in Birnin-Kebbi, Headquarters ofKebbi State of Nigeria . He had his primary and Secondary Schools education in Birnin-Kebbi from 1958-1969. On obtaining his West African School Certificate, he was admitted into Government College Sokoto (now Nagarata College) for the Higher School Certificate Course (H.S.C), which he successfully completed in 1971. He attended Ahmadu Bello University (Kano Campus) where he obtained a B.A (Hons), majoring in History, and a Graduate Certificate in Education in 1976. He was deployed to Benue State for the National Youth Service Corps Scheme (1976/77 Service Year). He. was one of the pioneer lecturers at the Murtala Muhammed College of Arts and Science (MUCAS) Markurdi; as a History Lecturer.
After the NYSC scheme, he joined the Civil Service of the fornler Sokoto State Government as an Administrative Officer VIII on GL08, in August 1977. On successful passing of the requisite Civil Service Examination for Administrative Officers in 1978, he continued to enjoy his subsequent promotions without any hindrance and in 1990 attained the post of Administrative Officer I, on GLI6.
Bello Bala was selected to attend a Senior Course on Security for Administrative Officers at the National Security Institute in Lagos. He was appointed Director-General in 1990 and posted to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. His Administrative - working career in the former Sokoto State Civil Service included postings as an Assistant Secretary (A.S) to the Sokoto State Civil Service Commission and thereafter as Secretary to the following ministries and Department:-
- Department of Career and Special Services
- Ministry of Works and Transport
- Ministry of Finance (Chairman Board of Survey)
- Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture
- Ministry of Agriculture & Natural Resources
- Board of Internal Revenue
- Sokoto State Development Appeal Fund
- Department of Local Government Affairs
- Ministry of Education
- Health Service Management Board
- Appointed as Chairman/Sole Administrator for the former Yauri Local
- Government Council for a period of about two years.
On the creation of Kebbi State out of the former Sokoto State, Bello Bala was deployed to Kebbi State as Director-General and held the position of Ag. Secretary to the Kebbi State Government. He voluntarily retired ,from the Public Service in January, 1994 after putting in 16 years.
Bello Bala was at one time or another a Board Director with the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria, PIc (CCNN), Roads Nigeria PIc, Gamji Bank of Nigeria PIc, and Zamfara Textile Ltd. On his retirement from the State Service, the Kebbi State Government appointed him to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Kebbi State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCOM) and also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Abdullahi Fodio Islamic Centre, Brinin-Kebbi. In 1999 the Federal Government appointed him a member and later Ag. Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agriculural Research Management Training Institute (ARMTI) Ilorin .
Alhaji Bello Bala was in the field of sports. He was Athletics Captain at both Government Secondary School , Brinin-Kebbi and Nagarta College Sokoto. Similarly, he was elected Director of Sports in the Student Union Government of ABU (Kano Campus). He was at one time the State Chairman of the Sokoto State Badminton Association.
Bello Bala married Hajiya Fadima Bello (Yar Ummu) in 1970. The family is blessed with six children namely; Fadima, Hawau, Kabiru, Mustapha, Maryam Zainab, and seven grandchildren.
